Seminar on Employment Law Audits
Is your organization ready for an employment law audit by a federal or state agency? Regardless of size or industry, all employers are at risk of being audited — but most are unprepared. For example, in FY 2015, the Department of Labor found violations in 79% of agency-initiated wage and hour investigations.
Failed employment law audits can result in significant penalties. While it is impossible to avoid being randomly selected for a governmental audit, employers can take steps now to minimize the associated risks by performing their own internal audit of workplace policies, practices and procedures to assess compliance with the numerous employment laws and regulations governing the workplace.
Smith & Downey will be holding a seminar on conducting a voluntary, internal self-audit to identify and correct the most common violations cited in governmental audits. Materials will include a comprehensive “hire-to-fire” compliance checklist, including topics like job descriptions, handbook policies, performance review protocols, disciplinary policies, and the like.
The seminar will be held on Monday, April 11th, from 8:30 – 11:00 a.m. at Abilities Network, 8503 LaSalle Road, Towson, MD 21286. As always, there is no charge for the seminar. Please contact Alison Christian at achristian@smithdowney.com or (410) 321-9000 to register. (Light refreshments will be served.)
